CU-ICAR to host international automotive summit Monday-Tuesday
September 22, 2011GREENVILLE, SC – September 26-27, 2011 – Clemson University President James F.Barker will give the opening remarks at the second annual AutomotiveTransatlantic Summit, which will be Sept. 26-27 at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR).
Barker will address the conference at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the AT&T Auditorium. His remarks will be webcast live online.
An international group of political and industry leaders will visitthe Upstate for the leading automotive conference that will addresscompetitiveness, economic development and future of the global autoindustry.
The two-day conference features a broad array of internationalexperts in the automotive field addressing critical areas in Americanand European automotive competition, including smart innovationprocesses, new trends in mobility and the implications for vehiclemanufacturers and suppliers.
The conference is hosted by CU-ICAR and the Automotive Intelligence Center of Bilbao, Spain.
Following Barker’s remarks, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (via video) and U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy will give a joint keynote address.
On Monday afternoon, the conference moves to the Zentrum Auditoriumat BMW Manufacturing Co. in Greer, where South Carolina CommerceSecretary Bobby Hitt will discuss the state’s economic developmentstrategy.
The conference returns to CU-ICAR on Tuesday. Technical sessionsinclude international research and development models and the CU-ICARand Automotive Intelligence Center business models.
Technical and other speakers include Mikel Lorente, technicaldirector of the Automotive Intelligence Center, and John Kelly, ClemsonUniversity vice president for economic development.
