The Salvation Army Columbia Corps serves Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, and Kershaw counties. The Salvation Army has provided substantial services to those living in poverty in the Midlands for over 100 years. The Salvation Army is widely known throughout the Midlands as an organization that cares for the homeless. The following highlights describe some of the services provided for the homeless in Fiscal Year 2019 (October 2018 – September 2019):
- 2,479 families received emergency basic needs assistance including: rent, utility, water and food boxes;
- 242,270 meals were served to the homeless;
- 811 clothing vouchers were issued;
- 1,731 hygiene kits were distributed.
The Salvation Army is ‘Doing The Most Good’ in the Midlands assisting families through programs such as Leveraging Literacy, Operation: School Supplies, Christmas Assistance, Camp for Kids, Food Pantry, and Disaster and Crisis Relief.
