District 56 Celebrates Strong State Report Card Ratings for 2022-2023 Academic Year

District 56 is delighted to share the outstanding results from the 2022-2023 State Report Cards, showcasing the overall ratings of our schools for the academic year. The report cards reflect the progress and achievements of our educational institutions, indicating our commitment to student success and development.

Superintendent Dr. David O’Shields expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of our educators, recognizing their continuous hard work to enhance student learning. The ‘Good’ rating for all three elementary schools signifies a strong foundational base for our middle and high schools.
Josie Kate Haupfear, Director of Secondary Education, commended the secondary schools for their relentless efforts in implementing effective strategies that benefit all students academically. The district is pleased to witness the positive impact of these initiatives reflected in certain report card indicators, acknowledging the dedication and achievements of both students and staff.
In a significant accomplishment, all schools within District 56 meet or surpass the criteria essential to ensure all students align with the Profile of the SC Graduate, showcasing world-class knowledge, skills, and life and career characteristics. Mr. Eddie Marshall, Director of Federal Programs and Elementary Education, emphasized the continuous focus on improvement across all educational aspects, evident in the positive outcomes revealed by the report card ratings.
In accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), South Carolina’s report card system diligently evaluates schools and districts using various measures such as student performance, growth, graduation rates, and college or career readiness, among others. These assessments result in an overall school rating, reflecting their preparation of students to meet the Profile of the SC Graduate.
While celebrating these achievements, District 56 administrators acknowledge the ongoing journey toward improvement. Dr. Brenda Schrantz, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, underscored the district’s commitment to persistently address every child’s needs and tailor instructional programs to ensure all students reach the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, becoming college and/or career ready.
In conclusion, Dr. David O’Shields emphasized the importance of viewing report card ratings as a part of a broader perspective on school quality, recognizing that students are more than mere numbers. District 56 firmly believes in “The Experience Matters” as more than a motto—it represents the continuous cultivation of future citizens well-equipped to positively contribute to society.
