IRMO, SC – Lexington-Richland School District Five ACT scores once again rank among the highest in the state according to data released on August 23. This comes in the first full year that the ACT became mandatory as part of state accountability system.  While only 64% of students nationwide took the ACT, 100% of South Carolina students were required to complete the assessment. District Five had a 45% increase in the number of test-takers, an increase of 569 students.

ACTTest results for the latest ACT assessment showed District Five students had a composite score of 20.5, the second highest composite score of any school district in South Carolina.  The state’s composite score was 18.5.  Chief Instructional Officer, Dr. Christina Melton was pleased that District Five remained a leader in ACT results saying, “These results are another indicator that District Five places a top priority on classroom instruction. We will look at these results along with many others as we continue to refine and improve teaching and learning across all of our schools.”

The ACT exam is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. The test includes multiple-choice questions with a highest possible score of 36. It is offered several times per year in the United States. The new ACT data will allow schools in District Five to improve instruction moving forward.
