District Five ACT scores among the top 10 in SC

August 20, 2014

IRMO, SC – Lexington-Richland School District Five students again scored among the highest ACT scores in the state, according to new data released August 20.

District Five students had an average composite score of 22.1, which is above the state average of 20.4 and the national average of 21 points. The district had the seventh highest composite score in the state, and all three of the district’s high schools in the ACT report scored above state and national averages.

District Five Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner said, “Having one of the highest ACT scores in the state is a testament to the laser focus we have on instruction in this district. These scores are especially impressive given the high number of students we have taking the ACT. We are proud of the accomplishments of our students, but we also know we must continue to raise the bar as academic measures become more rigorous.”

The ACT exam is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. The test includes multiple-choice questions with a highest possible score of 36. It is offered several times per year in the U.S., and is usually taken during a student’s junior or senior year of high school.

The new ACT data mirrors other recent reports, placing District Five among the best in the state for academic rigor and preparing students for college.
