IRMO, SC – Lexington-Richland School District Five’s most recent graduates earned nearly $120 million in college scholarships this school year. The awards for students from Chapin High, Dutch Fork High and Irmo High schools include both academic and athletic scholarships. More than 1000 District Five students graduated during ceremonies on June 5.

Chapin High School graduates were offered more than $37.5 million. “The scholarship total offered to the graduates from Chapin High School is a tribute to the efforts of parents, students, teachers, administration, counselors and coaches,” said Annette Moore, the school’s director of guidance. “We are proud of our students who have demonstrated that academic excellence is a tradition at our school. We wish all of our graduates much success as they venture on their new journeys. Congratulations to the class of 2014.”

At Dutch Fork High, the number of scholarships offered totaled more than $49.4 million.

Dorothy Burckart, director of guidance at the school, said: “The significance of this amount of scholarship money offered is reflective of the depth and the rigor of instruction and learning. At Dutch Fork High School, we have a magnet STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program and an Advanced Placement program that are outstanding. Taking challenging courses is the norm at Dutch Fork High; therefore, our students are well prepared for scholarship competition.”

Irmo High School’s 2014 graduating students were offered more than $33 million in college scholarships, said Robert Taylor, the school’s guidance director.

“This class of 2014 has done an outstanding job of applying for scholarships this year and has been recognized by local, state and national organizations for their tradition of excellence in academics, athletics and community service,” Taylor said. “I am extremely proud of the total amount of scholarship dollars offered to the Irmo High School Class of 2014. Congratulations!”

The scholarship amounts represent awards at four-year, two-year and technical colleges and universities in South Carolina and other states. Scholarships included academic scholarships such as the Legislative Incentive for Future Excellence (LIFE) Scholarship, athletic awards and scholarships for leadership and community service.
