June 30, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – Representatives from Palmetto Warrior Connection and America’s Warrior Partnership presented a $25,000 check to Charleston Southern University this week to assist Charleston Southern’s veteran students.

“We are proud to be a partner with CSU,” said Jermaine Husser, executive director of Palmetto Warrior Connection.

At the check presentation Dr. Jairy C. Hunter Jr., CSU president, talked about the vision of the university’s founders to reach out to the adult population in the area 50 years ago and offer an education to adults, including the military. “Our military families are special,” he said.

Recently, Charleston Southern created a lounge for veteran students. The lounge will formally be dedicated in the fall when the majority of students are back on campus.

According to Teri Karges, director of financial aid, and Devon Kemble, veterans services coordinator, the $25,000 grant will help fund the following initiatives:

  • Fund a part-time veteran service coordinator to allow for better customer service to our veteran students and faster certification of benefits
  • Fund a Veteran’s Day Appreciation Drop-In in November (for students, faculty and staff who are veterans)
