Dominion awards $20,000 in environmental grants to two SC organizations

April 22, 2016

Continuing our long tradition of support for projects that protect and improve the environment, Dominion Resources has announced that it will award $1 million in environmental grants through the Dominion Foundation to 67 organizations in 10 states and the District of Columbia. This year’s Dominion Environmental Grants will help fund a wide variety of initiatives to improve public spaces and preserve habitats for the benefit of nature lovers across the Dominion footprint.

The grants are part of Dominion’s annual competitive program to support environmental projects that protect and preserve natural habitats, improve open spaces, make nature accessible or educate the public about environmental stewardship. Since 2003, Dominion has donated $26.7 million to support a wide variety of environmental projects, including many in the Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission service territory.

This year in South Carolina, two organizations will share $20,000 in funding. Grant recipients include:

  • Palmetto Conservation Foundation, Columbia, SC, for development of bog bridges, a boardwalk over wetlands and 6.5 miles of new trail along the Fort Jackson Passage. The Fort Jackson Passage was impacted by the 2015 Flood. The new trails will allow bikers, hikers, Army families and the National Guard to access, study and enjoy local ecosystems.
  • Drayton Hall, Charleston, SC, for a wetland conservation project that will preserve historic dikes, water control structures and embankments; and increase the depth of the historic rice ponds. These projects will contribute to the surrounding wildlife habitats that house endangered species and further enhance the visitor education program.
