Dominion Energy environmental grant application now open to nonprofit, educational organizations

August 29, 2023

Dominion Energy has opened the application window for eligible nonprofit and educational organizations to apply for environmental grants.

The Environmental Education & Stewardship Grant program highlights Dominion Energy’s efforts to improve the environment and provide educational experiences in the communities it serves. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m., Sept. 30.

Eligible organizations can apply for grants up to $50,000 to support specific projects that promise measurable results to improve the environment. In addition, public and private K-12 schools in eligible regions can apply for classroom grants up to $5,000 for environmental education programs.

“It’s always exciting to see great ideas to protect and preserve South Carolina’s beauty for future generations to enjoy,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “Whether it’s conserving our natural resources or increasing their accessibility, it’s a privilege to partner with groups who are committed to maintaining the Palmetto State’s well-deserved reputation as a beautiful place to call home and a beautiful place to visit.”

Last year, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation awarded more than $236,000 in environmental stewardship grants to organizations in South Carolina. Among the recipients was Saluda Shoals Foundation, which received $33,000 to restore and preserve a 10-acre wetland at Saluda Shoals Park, a 480-acre regional nature preserve in Columbia. The project will add a groundwater well and plump, remove invasive species and replace them with native plants and restore bank areas to reduce erosion and improve water quality.

This competitive grant process supports three priorities: educating students and the public about environmental stewardship, protecting and preserving natural habitats and improving open spaces to make nature more accessible.

Since 2003, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has awarded nearly $40 million to projects that protect and improve the environment. In 2022, $1.3 million in grant funding was awarded to 97 environmental organizations across eight states.

Dominion Energy encourages eligible organizations in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Utah, Connecticut, Idaho, Wyoming and other communities served by Dominion Energy to apply.
