Don’t Get Burned – Trident Health Offers Free Skin Cancer Screening

N. CHARLESTON, SC – May 2,2012 – As summer approaches, the thought of tanning – either indoors oroutdoors – may seem appealing. But dermatologists warn tanning comes with asignificant health risk that can be deadly.

       
“There is no such thing as a healthytan,” said Dr. Hudson Rogers with Trident Dermatology. “A tan is the skin’sresponse to injury from UV rays. That damage can lead to skin cancer, includingmelanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.”
 
Melanoma is the most common form ofcancer for young adults 25-29 years old and the second most common cancer inadolescents and young adults 15-29 years old. One American dies from melanomaalmost every hour.
 
In support of Melanoma AwarenessMonth, Trident Health will be offering a free skin cancer screening on Thursday,May 17 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Trident Medical Center.
