Dr. Page McCraw Named President of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind

SPARTANBURG, SC – Dr. Page McCraw has been named president of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. She has served as interim president since August 2014.

“We are very pleased that Dr. McCraw has accepted the presidency,” said Bobby Dobson, chairman of the school’s Board of Commissioners. “She has demonstrated outstanding leadership while serving as interim president over the last year. She has worked to build excellent relationships with all of our stakeholders, and we are excited by the unlimited possibilities she brings for the students and outreach clients of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind.”

Over the last year, Dr. McCraw has led the school as a new outreach center was opened in Charleston, a one-to-one student technology initiative was implemented, and significant reading education improvements were made. She has worked with the staff to complete construction plans for a new applied academics building and renovation plans for existing career training facilities.

Dr. McCraw has extensive knowledge of the school, previously serving as director of curriculum and instruction. She has experience with multiple school districts through her work as the state director of career and technology education for the SC Department of Education. Her experience also includes 24 years in Cherokee County Schools serving as a high school math teacher, career center director, director of educational programs, and personnel director. She holds Ph.D., Ed.S., and M.Ed. degrees in educational administration from the University of South Carolina as well as a B.S. degree in science teaching and mathematics from Clemson University.

“I am honored to have been selected,” said Dr. McCraw. “I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Commissioners and staff to continue their great work through campus and outreach programs as well through partnerships with professionals throughout the state.”

Dr. McCraw and her husband, Michael McCraw, are the proud parents of two successful children. Son Madison is a recent graduate of the Charlotte School of Law. Daughter Delaney graduated from Clemson in May and is working in marketing for Synnex Corporation.

The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is the state’s only specialized school for students who are deaf or blind. It offers pre K-12 educational programs on its main campus in Spartanburg and specialized vision and hearing services in school districts and homes throughout the state.
