Dreher Student Named SC Bar LRE Citizen of the Year

May 20, 2015
COLUMBIA, SC – The SC Bar Law Related Education (LRE) Division has named Dreher High School senior Nick Seymour the 2015 Citizen of the Year. The award was presented to Mr. Seymour on May 19 at Dreher High School.

Mr. Seymour is the son of a mock trial volunteer attorney and began assisting with LRE events at a young age. Throughout his elementary and middle school years he worked behind the scenes at numerous LRE events, and in high school he finally had the opportunity to compete on Dreher High School’s mock trial team.

Additionally, Mr. Seymour has interned with the Bar’s Media Services Division for two summers. There, he helped to edit various mock trial video training segments.  These training videos have been a great tool for teachers working with students in the Mock Trial program throughout the state.

“Mr. Seymour truly understands what being a participatory citizen is about and how one person can make a difference,” said Cynthia H. Cothran, LRE Director.  “For his long history of volunteering at LRE events and his always positive attitude, Nick Seymour is deserving of the distinction as the 2015 Law Related Education Citizen of the Year.”

The LRE Citizen of the Year Award is presented annually and recognizes commendable service by someone outside of the traditional law and education fields who has a profound interest in the development of students into responsible citizens.

The SC Bar LRE Division, which was developed to improve the ability of teachers to instruct law related education, has been part of the Bar since 1976. With a membership of more than 15,000 lawyers, the South Carolina Bar is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
