Local students greeted by Duke staff at performance

The Peace Center has received a $50,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to sponsor the 2016-2017 Youth Performance Series, which is part of the Peace Outreach Program (POP!).

On the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 26, Duke Energy staff members were on hand to greet local 3rd – 6th grade students attending Bill Blagg’s The Science of Magic. Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, Clark Gillespy, presented a check to Staci Koonce, the Peace Center’s vice president of education and community engagement.

“Our philanthropic investments in education span the kindergarten-to- career spectrum and are central to our charitable investments,” Gillespy said. “Our children are the future leaders of our communities, and it is imperative that we contribute to their success. Supporting the Peace Outreach Program is a great opportunity to do just that.”

The Duke Energy Foundation grant will help fund scholarship tickets to performances for students who might not otherwise have access to the arts.
