Dylan Thomas’ Christmas in Wales returns as Christmas Tradition

CHARLESTON, SC – Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina and Chamber Music Charleston are bringing back to Charleston the highly acclaimed Christmas memoir of famous Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas.   Dylan Thomas’ Christmas In Wales is a one-act performance of Thomas’ 1955 beloved radio story “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”.  Thomas remembers a picture book Christmas of snow ball fights, polar cats, magical presents and carols in the village.

Broadway film, TV and Broadway star, Clarence Felder, portrays the author remembering his youth. It is a performance of humorous and poignant anecdotes of festive delights woven with live classical music. Mr. Felder is accompanied by a string quartet of chamber musicians performing traditional carols arranged by director, Sandra Nikolajevs. Recommended for audiences 10 years and above.

About the Star…
Clarence Felder (DYLAN THOMAS) stars in All For Liberty a feature film shot in South Carolina, which has received nine international awards and high acclaim. He co-starred in numerous other films including The Last Boy Scout, Ruthless People, The Hidden, After Hours, Amazing Grace & Chuck, and Nightmare On Elm St. (Pt 5). Mr. Felder co-starred for two years on the series Hooperman with John Ritter, as well as LA Law, Crime Story, NYPD Blue, Kojak, Matlock, Dallas, Hill Street Blues, Baywatch, and others.  He also co-starred in 10 Broadway shows in New York including Queen & The Rebels (with Colleen Dewhurst), Henry V and Memory Of Two Mondays (with Meryl Streep), Love For Love (with Glenn Close), Macbeth (with Christopher Walken) The Suicide (w/ Derek Jacobi) and as Debbie Harry’s (Blondie) father in Teaneck Tanzi, The Venus Flytrap. In regional theatre, Mr. Felder has had leading roles in over 100 plays in major theatres in the U.S. He received rave reviews for the role of Hermann Goering in Goering At Nuremberg by Romulus Linney in highly successful runs Off-Broadway and in the southeast. He is also a poet and playwright.

About the Arranger…
Born and raised in central Massachusetts, bassoonist Sandra Nikolajevs began her formal musical education at the Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music in Ohio and continued studies at the Juilliard School in New York City and the Paris Conservatory. Ms. Nikolajevs has participated in the National Repertory Orchestra and the Tanglewood Music Center summer music festivals. After moving to Charleston in 1998 she began an active freelance musician career, holding principal bassoon positions in the Augusta Symphony and South Carolina Philharmonic. She is currently principal bassoon of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Director and Founder of Chamber Music Charleston.
