EdVenture Children's Museum to Conduct Free Flu Education Programs

October 5, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – October 5, 2009 – In preparation for the flu season, EdVenture Children’s Museum will conduct a series of free public health education programs teaching parents and children how to stay healthy during the flu season and prevent spread of the disease. Dr. Kathie Williams, RN, DrPH, EdVenture’s health education manager, will teach the Germs, Germs, Germs programs beginning Thursday, October 8, through February 2010, at community sites throughout Richland and Lexington counties. EdVenture is partnering with Carolina Crescent Health Plan, Inc. to provide the programming.

There are two opportunities in October for program participation:

  • Thursday, October 8, 5-9 pm, at the City of Forest Acres’ Rooftop Rythms (top of Richland Mall parking facility)
  • October 19-20, 9 am to 1 pm, at Kindergarten Days at the SC State Fair.

EdVenture will present additional programs over the next five months at Richland County public libraries.

Germs, Germs, Germs is a highly interactive program that teaches the value of important hygiene habits for healthiness. Children will learn what a germ is and how to avoid spreading disease and can practice hand washing with glo-germ, a lotion that simulates how germs stick to our hands. Meanwhile, parents will learn what actions they can implement at home and out in the community to keep their families healthy.

The Germs, Germs, Germs program is aligned with South Carolina health and safety standards and elementary school science standards.

For more information about upcoming Germs, Germs, Germs programs or to book this program at your community event, visit www.edventure.org or call (803) 779-3100. The mission of EdVenture Children’s Museum is to inspire children to experience the joy of learning.
