EdVenture joins national celebration of Week of the Young Child

EdVenture Children’s Museum joins South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children in celebration of the National Week of the Young Child™ from April 11 to April 16 at the museum. The Week of the Young Child will focus on bringing public awareness to the needs of young children and their families, and recognize early childhood education professionals, services and programs designed to meet their needs.

“When we invest resources in the health, education and well-being of young children, our entire community benefits,” said Nikki Williams, EdVenture executive vice president of external relations. “The museum is proud to celebrate early learning and activities for children not only during this special week, but every day of the year.”

EdVenture and community partners will provide story times, puppet shows, music, art activities, games, hands-on activities, educational information, nutritional cooking classes and face painting. All Week of the Young Child activities are free with museum membership or admission.

April 11 Music Monday: Music in the Imaginarium — 9:30 a.m. | Yoga Playshop & Story Time reading, “The Little Laughing Yogini” read by the author, Brittney Hiller — 10 – 10:30 a.m.| Puppet Show — 10:30 a.m.| Story Time & Game with Corduroy — 11:15 a.m. | Corduroy art activity — 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. | Cooking Lab activity making Teddy Bear Toast — 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

April 12 Tasty Tuesday: Toddler Tuesday Extended Hours — all day | 12-Cent Kids Day | Bilingual song performance from My Amigos — 10 a.m. | USC early childhood education students pop-up interactive exhibit programming — 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. | “Eating the Rainbow” Nutritional Program – 11 a.m. | Family Night $1 admission — 5 – 8 p.m. | Family Night Pinwheel Parade | Soccer with Soccer Shots 5 – 8 p.m. | Science programming on the first floor — 5 – 8 p.m. | The Age of Bilingualism—5:30 p.m.

April 13 Work Together Wednesday: Shake, Rattle & Read — 10 a.m. | Richland Library Special Guest Story Time | SCDHEC Hands-on oral health activity for children and take home activity for parents— 9 – 11 a.m. | “It Runs in the Family” BioInvestigations Lab program — 11 a.m. | Science program activities — 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Shake, Rattle & Read with Corduroy — 3 – 4 p.m.

April 14 Artsy Thursday: Story time with local author Frances Jones of Cricket Curls Adventures — 11 a.m. | Face Painting | USC early childhood education students pop-up interactive exhibit programming — 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Community art project

April 15 Family Friday: Story time with local author Frances Jones of Cricket Curls Adventures — 11 a.m. | Healthy Eating and Wellness Cooking Class provided by WIC — 10 a.m.| Shake, Rattle and Read with Horton the Elephant — 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. | Fireflies Mascot Visit — 1 – 3 p.m.

April 16 Spectacular Saturday: Cooking Class provided by WIC — 10 a.m. | All day art activities, backyard games and community art project
