EdVenture Program Manager Chosen to Present at National Maker Faire

Daniel Cummins Represents South Carolina with DIY Kitchen Sink Piano
COLUMBIA, SC – Daniel Cummins, the inventor of the Kitchen Sink Piano and EdVenture Children’s Museum’s Maker Program Manager, has been selected to represent South Carolina at the National Maker Faire on June 12-13 in Washington DC. Cummins will join hundreds of other inventors from across the country to kick off the national “Week of Making” on June 12-18. The week-long celebration, which marks the one-year anniversary of the White House Maker Faire, sheds light on entrepreneurs and students who are bringing new tools to the table to further efforts in STEM, manufacturing and to launch new ventures.
“Though Maker Faires have been happening on a state-by-state basis for many years, this event is the first to convene makers from each state for a showcase of ingenuity and creativity happening across our nation,” said K. Wayne Thornley, executive vice president of branding and museum experiences. “We are very proud to have Daniel represent South Carolina with his newest invention and to share his expertise in maker education.”
Cummins spends his workday educating young children at the museum. After hours, he and his wife, Sara, are avid DIYers and constructed the Kitchen Sink Piano using a Makey Makey circuit board, a computer, a kitchen sink and stainless steel kitchen utensils.
“Through basic circuitry, I was able to convert ordinary kitchen utensils into a working piano,” said Cummins.
Cummins is excited to exhibit his newest creation and meet other inventors who share his passion for making.
