Engaging with Students: Sheriff’s Office Brings Back Fist Bump Friday to Foster Connections with Kids

December 12, 2023

In a welcomed return, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office announces another Fist Bump Friday, scheduled for December 15th. This initiative, which received positive support in the past, involves deputies greeting students at the beginning of their school day with a friendly fist bump, high five, and words of encouragement.

Sheriff Don Reynolds, a strong advocate for community outreach and positive policing, expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s return. “Fist Bump Friday is not just a gesture; it’s an opportunity to build bridges between law enforcement and our community, starting from an early age,” Sheriff Reynolds emphasized. The event aims to create a positive perception of law enforcement among students and foster a sense of trust and camaraderie between deputies and the community they serve.

This marks the third time the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has conducted a fist bump event. By interacting with students in a friendly and approachable manner, deputies hope to establish positive connections that can have a lasting impact on the community’s perception of law enforcement.

“We believe in the power of positive interactions,” Sheriff Reynolds remarked. “Fist Bump Friday is a simple yet effective way to show our commitment to building trust within the community. By starting these conversations early on, we hope to create a foundation of mutual respect and understanding that will last for years to come.”

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to visiting schools throughout the county this Friday providing fist bumps, smiles and even some hugs to students in Laurens County.
