Enterprise Holdings Foundation grant supports Meals on Wheels fundraiser

June 8, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC. The Enterprise Holdings Foundation supported Senior Resources’ recent Meals on Wheels 5K fundraiser with a $5,000 grant. Enterprise Holdings Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company that, through its regional subsidiaries, operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands.

The March for Meals 5K was held on February 21, 2015. It was the first 5K ever held on the scenic Timmerman Trail in Cayce. March for Meals is a nationwide initiative to support Meals on Wheels and other local meal programs that serve the elderly.

“With corporate support from the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, our March for Meals fundraiser can have a tremendous impact in addressing the issue of senior hunger,” said Pam Dukes, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “In addition to raising money for Meals on Wheels and other senior meal programs, the March for Meals 5K helped raise awareness of the issue of food instability among the elderly.”

According to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger, South Carolina ranks 8th in terms of food instability among the elderly. Statewide, more than 18 percent of seniors are dealing with issues of hunger and food insecurity.
