Indigo Dyeing Workshops at Hopsewee Plantation
February 7 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Discover the “magic” of all-natural indigo at the historic home of Thomas Lynch, Sr., and learn the legacy of Eliza Lucas Pinckney, South Carolina’s famous “Indigo Girl.” This hands-on workshop teaches the basics of indigo dyeing—a primary South Carolina cash crop during the Colonial era.
Participants will learn various wrapping and dyeing techniques to create three unique items (such as sleepshirts, tea towels, or scarves) provided by the instructor. Guests are also invited to bring up to three small cotton items of their own to dip into the indigo vat.
