Please join Georgetown County and the Morant family on Dec. 26 for the dedication of Johnny Morant Highway and the unveiling of the new road sign. All are welcome, so feel free to share the invitation. A reception will follow at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church – 3505 Jackson Village Road.

Johnny Morant was a long-time member of Georgetown County Council, and he served as its chairman from 2008 until his retirement in 2018. He was dedicated to improving the quality of life in some of the county’s more rural areas, which included bringing sewer access to communities in Browns Ferry, Choppee, Annie Village and Plantersville. Morant and his brother were partners in the law firm of Morant and Morant, LLC, of Georgetown.

He died in July of 2020, at the age of 69.
