The community is invited to join the Lander University Jazz Ensemble for its first performance of the 2023-24 season Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium at Lander. The event is free and open to the public.

The Lander University Jazz Ensemble is a 25 piece big band. The group will be presenting an exciting program of musical selections with a variety of grooves and contrasting moods from across the history of jazz. “Our students are growing every day and have become quite accomplished musicians,” said Dr. Robert Gardiner, the group’s director. “I can’t wait for our community to hear what our students have to offer.”

Gardiner programs a concert with the idea that “variety is the spice of life.” The concert on Nov. 16 will include music originally recorded by a wide range of musicians including, Carlos Santana, Duke Ellington, Prince Count Basie and Stevie Wonder.
