Poet Glenis Redmond to Appear at Laurens Library

Glenis Redmond, celebrated poet, teacher, and imagination activist, will be featured at a special author event hosted by the Laurens County Library on September 24th at 6 p.m. Redmond, who served as Greenville County’s first Poet Laureate and is a 2023 Poet Laureate Fellow selected by the American Academy of Poets, has gained national recognition for her powerful work and contributions to the arts.
Her literary achievements include the highly acclaimed books Praise Songs for Dave the Potter and The Listening Skin, along with her latest release, The Song of Everything: A Poet’s Exploration of South Carolina’s State Parks. In recognition of her impact on the literary and artistic communities, Glenis Redmond was honored with South Carolina’s highest arts distinction, the Governor’s Award, and was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors in 2022.
Redmond’s poetry has reached audiences across the globe, with performances ranging from Hawaii to Haiti, as well as a tour in England. In addition to her performances, she works with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to promote poetry and cultural exchange.
Known for her belief that “poetry is the mouth that speaks when all other mouths are silent,” Redmond’s words continue to inspire and connect communities. The Laurens County Library is proud to welcome her to the community for this free event, which is open to the public.
