The Little River Regiment vs. The Little River Regiment – Civil War in the Revolutionary War

August 13 @ 10:00 pm

The Laurens County Museum Revolutionary War Lecture Series will confront the hard topic of neighbors fighting neighbors. Tuesday, August 13, at 7:00 PM, historian Durant Ashmore will speak about “Laurens County vs. Laurens County. The Civil War in Laurens County during the Revolutionary War”. The talk will be at the Laurens County Museum, 116 South Public Square, Laurens, SC. The public is invited. Museum members and those 18 years old and under are free. Others are asked to support the museum with a $5 donation.

Patriot against Loyalist. Cousin against cousin. In at least nine battles and skirmishes, Laurens County was divided in more ways than one. There was a Little River Regiment fighting for freedom from the rule of King George, III, and a Little River Regiment fighting in support of the king. Many battles were in the area specifically included in the current Laurens County boundaries, but battles stretched from Ninety Six to Kings Mountain. Come to the museum on August 13 to find out more about the men who fought against each other, yet lived within just a few miles of one another.

The Laurens County Museum is free and open for visitors Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Memberships and sponsorships are available. For more information, call (864) 681-3678, or visit Facebook and LaurensCountyMuseum.org.
