Unity In Our Communities (LOVE > Hate)
September 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Author Chris Singleton to Lead Powerful Discussion on Unity and Empathy at Richland Library
Richland Library is honored to host renowned author and speaker Chris Singleton for a compelling Author Talk titled Unity in Our Communities (LOVE > hate) on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Richland Library Main. The event will be followed by a book signing.
Chris Singleton, a former minor league baseball player drafted by the Chicago Cubs, has emerged as a nationally recognized speaker following the tragic loss of his mother in the 2015 Mother Emanuel Church Tragedy in Charleston, SC. Since then, he has dedicated his life to spreading a message of resilience, forgiveness, and unity. Singleton has inspired over 80 organizations annually, including major corporations like Boeing, Microsoft, and Volvo, as well as over 100,000 students and educators worldwide.
During this event, Singleton will draw from his book, Stories Behind Stances: Creating Empathy Through Hearing “The Other Side”, to challenge attendees to embrace empathy and understanding, even in the face of differing viewpoints. His insights on privilege, racism, and the power of listening are designed to inspire meaningful changes in everyday interactions and to foster greater unity within communities.
“Nobody chooses their skin color, so why would I ever hate you for yours? And why would you ever hate me for mine?” Singleton’s powerful words echo his commitment to bridging divides and promoting love over hate.
This event offers a unique opportunity for the community to engage with Singleton’s transformative message, which has been lauded by high-profile organizations and featured by The Obama Foundation. Singleton’s children’s book, Different: A Story About Loving Your Neighbor, also achieved best-seller status, further demonstrating his impact as an author and advocate for unity.
