Villages of Hobcaw

March 24 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Although Friendfield Village is the most frequented African American village at Hobcaw Barony, there are remnants of three additional villages rarely seen by the public: Alderly/Oryzantia, Barnyard, and Strawberry. Come tour places of interest including the Friendfield Village church, the ruins of a rice mill, a one-room schoolhouse, and land once owned by Joseph and Theodosia Burr Alston. Participants will hear stories of each village using historical photographs.

Participants will need to dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen, bug spray and water. If weather conditions prevent safe travel, the program will be cancelled. (Exertion level: Moderate impact – standing and walking on uneven terrain)

$35 per person. Reservations required: https://hobcawbarony.org/event/villages-of-hobcaw-barony-4/2026-03-24/
