Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County to Present 10th Jazz

CAMDEN, SC  The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) will present its 10th annual Jazz at the Center Music Festival, April 25-27, in historic downtown Camden.  The featured concert this year takes place at the Wood Auditorium on Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m., following a cocktail reception from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Wood Auditorium. 

Maddy Winer and Vince Lewis and the Jazz All-Stars will provide entertainment from the Great American Songbook, and modern standard jazz  that are sure to please jazz lovers of all tastes. Their new CDCrossroads was hailed by Just Jazz Magazine as first rate and say …the musicianship is simply as good as it gets.   Maddy Winer’s vocals are described as having a distinctive timbre with perfect intonation. Tickets for the Saturday night Wood Auditorium concert are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military. Other events are listed in the schedule below. This year’s Jazz at the Center Music Festival is sponsored by First Citizens, Kennedy Insurance, and the City of Camden. Host hotels are Colony Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites, and the Holiday Inn Express in Camden.

About the Festival

This year’s festival will begin with a free Finally Friday outdoor concert from at 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Joe & Sandy Shull Pavilion behind the Wood Auditorium. Bring a chair, blanket, your friends and family and help us kick off the weekend with the band Power. Food and beverages will be available for purchase for this event. Rain location will be on the stage of the Wood Auditorium.

Following the free Finally Friday event, grab a bite to eat at one of our participating restaurants-Sam Kendall’s, Old Armory Steak & Seafood House and Salud!-and continue to enjoy the sounds of jazz throughout the dinner time, as well as the late night concert at Venue on Broad with The Mike Frost Band. Saturday will start early at 10:30 a.m. at the Kershaw County Farmers Market for a special performance by the Camden Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Nancy Neal. Come a little early for a sneak peek at a number from the upcoming Camden Community Theatre Production of Bark! The Musical.  Enjoy shopping downtown and lunch at several participating restaurants and an afternoon show at Books on Broad.  The featured concert is at 8:00 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center featuring Maddy Winer and Vince Lewis and the Jazz All-Stars.  The evening will end with a late night Jazz performance by Edwin G. Hamilton at the Venue on Broad at 9:30 p.m.

Closing out the weekend will be a special Jazz Mass at Grace Episcopal Church on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. featuring The Dick Goodwin Quintet with the Grace Episcopal Choir.
