Five new directors elected to MUSC Foundation board; Board officers elected

CHARLESTON, SC –  The Medical University of South Carolina Foundation (MUSCF) has elected five new members: John T. Cahill, Cleveland A. Christophe, Retired U.S. Army Col. Mike Heath, Harold W. Jablon, DMD and Susan Pearlstine.

John T. Cahill

Cahill is chairman of Kraft Foods Group based in Northfield, Illinois. A Charleston native and resident, Cahill also serves as lead director of American Airlines Group and on the boards of the Colgate-Palmolive Company and Best Lawyers. Previously, he served as chairman and chief executive of The Pepsi Bottling Group.

Cahill is an honors graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Business School. He has served on the boards of Legg Mason and the U.S.-Russia Business Council and as chairman of the American Beverage Association. Locally, he serves on the board of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Joye Cottage Foundation in Aiken. He is married to Betsy Kirkland Cahill and they have four children.

Cleveland A. Christophe

Christophe is the retired president and chief financial officer of US&S located in Greenville, South Carolina and the former Managing Partner of TSG Capital Group, a private equity investment firm.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Builders FirstSource, Inc. (NASDAQ), the Peace Center for the Performing Arts (Greenville) and the Thornblade Country Club (Greenville).  He received an MBA from the University of Michigan, a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1975.

Retired U.S. Army Col. Mike Heath

Col. Heath is president and chief executive officer of Heath Healthcare Consulting.  He received his BS in Premed from Clemson University; Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from MUSC and performed his residency at the Pharmacy in the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center.

Col. Heath is a member of the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the Wilson Family Board of Directors, and a sustaining member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S.  He is currently Chairman of the Building the Leadership Committee for the MUSC College of Pharmacy.

 

 

 

 

Harold W. Jablon, DMD

 

Harold W. Jablon, DMD

Jablon, who was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley to the MUSC board of trustees in April 2011, has been practicing dentistry in Columbia since graduating from MUSC in 1971. He served our nation by working for the U.S. Navy Dental Corps from 1971 to 1973, having earned the rank of Lieutenant.  Jablon then opened his own general practice for Family and Cosmetic Dentistry where he practiced for 33 years and continues to work with pediatric patients at Kids First Dental in Columbia.

Jablon is past president of the Greater Columbia Dental Association and the MUSC Alumni Association, a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy-International Honorary Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and fellow of the American College of Dentistry.  He is the 1999 recipient of the MUSC Presidential Merit Award and the 2008 Recipient of the Pierre Fauchard Academy Certificate of Recognition for support and contributions to the profession of dentistry. In 2005 he was named to the listing of Best Dentists in America.

 

Susan Pearlstine

 

Susan Pearlstine

Pearlstine is owner and director of Pearlstine Family Companies.  Pearlstine, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado, is on the board of directors for Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim (KKBE), Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.  She has been active in many other civic organizations in both Charleston and Park City, Utah.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The MUSC Foundation also announced its elected officers: Carlos E. Evans, chairman; Daniel J. Sullivan, vice chairman; Thomas P. Anderson, secretary; and Robyn M. Frampton, treasurer.

 

 

Carlos E. Evans

 

Carlos E. Evans (Chairman)

Evans joined Bankers Trust of South Carolina (later became Bank of America), through a management associate program in 1973, and has 41 years of financial services experience.  In 2000, he joined First Union (later became Wachovia).  In 2008, Wachovia was acquired by Wells Fargo, and he assumed responsibility for their Commercial Banking Business in the East and its Government and Institutional Banking Business nationwide, which is a position he held until his retirement on May 31, 2014.

Evans is the chairman of the board of the Spoleto Festival USA and is a member of the Queens University’s board of trustees. A native of Florence, South Carolina, Evans graduated from Newberry College with a bachelor’s degree in economics.  He is a graduate of the Commercial Lending School in Norman, Oklahoma, and the Colgate Darden Commercial Lending School at the University of Virginia.

 

 

 

Daniel J. Sullivan

 

Daniel J. Sullivan (Vice Chairman)

Sullivan is president of Flyway, LLC.  He was president and CEO of FedEx Ground, Inc. and Caliber System, Inc. until his retirement in 2007.  Sullivan is chairman of the board of Schneider National, Inc.  He also serves on the board of directors of Computer Task Group, Inc. where he is lead director of Pike Electric, Inc.  He served on the Flight 93 National Memorial Federal Advisory Commission until 2011.  He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Amherst College.

Sullivan, who was elected to the Western Pennsylvania Business Hall of Fame in 2007, received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award in 2007 and the 2006 Achievement Award for Business by the Ireland Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A.  He was also chosen as the Pittsburgh Man of the Year in Business and Labor in 2002 and the Pittsburgh Industrialist of the Year in 2002.

 

Thomas P. Anderson

 

Thomas P. Anderson (Secretary)

Anderson is the chief executive officer for MUSC’s Foundation and former president of Bank of America, S.C.  He served in various executive positions with NCNB of S.C. and NationsBank (now Bank of America).  He served on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations including president of the Coastal Community Foundation.

Anderson currently serves on the boards of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, Windwood Farm Home for Children and as chair-elect of the Saul Alexander Foundation.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston.

He received the Presidential Award of Merit from MUSC, the highest honor bestowed for volunteer service to the institution.  Anderson received his undergraduate business and MBA degrees from the University of South Carolina. He also served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy.

 

 

 

Robyn M. Frampton

 

Robyn M. Frampton (Treasurer)

Frampton, a certified public accountant with more than 28 years of experience, has served as the chief financial officer of the MUSC Foundation for 12 years.  She also held roles as director of fiscal affairs and internal audits manager at MUSC.

Frampton spent the early years of her career in public accounting with Coopers and Lybrand and Ernst and Young.  She’s a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting.  She is an active member in several civic and professional organizations.
