Former Santee Cooper VP James E. Brogdon Jr. Joins Nelson Mullins in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – Jim Brogdon, former general counsel and executive vice president for Santee Cooper, has joined the Columbia office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP as an attorney of counsel. Mr. Brogdon will practice in the areas of energy and utilities, business litigation, class action, and dispute resolution.

Mr. Brogdon joined South Carolina’s electric and water utility in 2005 and served on the CEO’s Executive Management Team. He also was a member of the Executive Fuels Committee, which was responsible for determining strategies for the purchase, transportation, and hedging of fuels used for electricity generation. Units under his supervision were internal audit, government affairs, litigation (including environmental matters), corporate communications, and law enforcement and security.

Before his service at Santee Cooper, he served as a Circuit Court Judge for nine years and was a member of the Circuit Court Judge Advisory Committee. He also worked in private practice for 19 years and served as the Marion County attorney for six of those years.

Mr. Brogdon earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wofford College.
