Free Income Tax Help

January 26, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC — It’s tax time and everyone could use a break. Richland Two’s W.R. Rogers, Adult, Continuing & Technology Education Center has some good news for taxpayers. The Rogers Center is partnering with SC Thrive to offer free tax help. No filing fees will be charged to prepare and file state and federal taxes. Anyone making $65,000 or less is eligible. If married filing jointly, your adjusted gross income must be $95,000 or less.  Eligible clients can claim the Earned Income Tax Credit and can also apply for other work supports such as health care coverage, home energy assistance, child care subsidies and food assistance.

The free service will be offered, Thursday, Feb. 12 from 1–6 p.m. at the Rogers Center located at 750 Old Clemson Road. Space is limited and an appointment is necessary.  Call 803.736.8787 to schedule an appointment.

Rogers Center principal Bobby Cunningham says this program helps people file their taxes early and properly without having to pay preparation fees.

“A lot of tax refunds have been diminished by exorbitant tax filing fees. Additionally, other folks who aren’t getting a refund at all may be faced with paying the government and the tax preparer,” said Cunningham.

SC Thrive is a nonprofit organization that also works with The Benefit Bank of South Carolina to offer no-cost income tax filing. While this program is not a new one, it is the first time the free filing event is being held at the Rogers Center. For more information call 803.736.8787.
