Gilbert High Hires Brendell as Choral Director

LEXINGTON, SC — At the July 15, 2014 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the administration’s recommendation to name Janna K. Brendell, Ph.D., choral director and music educator at Gilbert High.

Brendell, who currently serves as choral director and world drumming teacher at Waynesville Middle in North Carolina, has 26 years of music education experience.

She began her career in 1982 as an elementary music specialist at Buncombe County Schools in Asheville. She moved to A.C. Reynolds Middle and High schools in 1984 as choral director. In 1992, she joined East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, as an assistant/associate professor, until taking on her current role at Waynesville Middle.

Brendell earned a Bachelor of Music in music education from Mars Hill College, a Master of Music in music education from East Carolina University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in music education from Florida State University. She holds a music education-choral certification.

She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina American Choral Directors Association and the North Carolina Music Educators Association.
