Global Location Strategies Completes $275 Million in Site Selection Projects

August 3, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – Honing its reputation as one of America’s leading site selection consultancies, South Carolina-based Global Location Strategies (GLS) has announced completion of three major site selection assignments for clients representing over $275 million in investment in three Southern communities.

In Bowling Green, Kentucky, GLS clients Constellium N.V. and UACJ Corporation announced plans to jointly supply Body-in-White aluminum sheet to the North American automotive industry. The operation will have an initial target capacity of 100,000 metric tons but will be designed to allow for expansion beyond that level, with an expected total joint investment of approximately $150 million. Production is scheduled to start in the first half of 2016, with full capacity reached by 2018. Anticipated employment figures were not released.

In Shelby County, Kentucky, Diageo and GLS toasted plans to build a new $115 million distillery with a capacity of 1.8 million proof gallons of bourbon and other whiskies. The 300-acre site will be Diageo’s first in Kentucky where bourbon distilling is centered. Bourbon is currently the fastest growing category of spirits in the United States, enjoying double-digit expansion in the past year, while worldwide demand for premium bourbons and new flavored whiskies continues to soar as well. Company officials expect that the project will provide about 30 jobs in whiskey distillation and maturation.

Global chemical company Kemira, which serves customers in water-intensive industries, announced plans to invest $13.9 million to expand its dry polymer manufacturing operations in Aberdeen, Mississippi. The company provides expertise and chemicals that improve its customers’ water, energy and raw material efficiency, with a focus on pulp and paper, oil and gas, mining and water treatment industries.

These three projects add to the more than $1 billion in capital investments located by GLS in the past twelve months.

“As our business continues to expand domestically and internationally, we are extremely proud of the jobs and investment our efforts help to create in communities across the Southern region we call home,” said Didi Caldwell, GLS co-founder and Senior Principal. “GLS is all about helping companies and communities make the right decisions for long term growth and prosperity, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
