Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce hires new President and CEO

July 16, 2015

IRMO, SC – It was announced that Kerry Powers will become the new President and CEO of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce.

Kerry Powers has been the Associate Publisher for Free Times Media since 2006.  Powers attended State University of West Georgia and began her career as a radio account executive in 1997.  She has spent her entire career helping business owners throughout the Midlands grow their businesses.

“Our search committee vetted a number of very qualified individuals for this position,” said Michael Cromer, VP of First Community Bank and Chairman of the Board.  “Kerry stood out among all of the candidates and is going to be a fantastic addition to our chamber.”

It was announced in May that the current President and CEO, Tiffany Boyce Heitzman, would step down from her position due to a relocation assignment of her husband, Major Bill Heitzman.  End of this month, Boyce Heitzman will leave the Midlands and move to Arizona with her family.

“The chamber has experienced tremendous growth and momentum over the past two years,” said Boyce Heitzman. “It was really important for me to help find a candidate that would continue to move the chamber forward, and I believe we found that in Kerry.”

Two weeks ago staff moved into their new building located at 1235 Columbia Avenue in Irmo.  The new building will be home to a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting celebration next Tuesday, July 21 from 4 to 7 p.m., with the ribbon cutting happening at 6 p.m.

“I am thrilled to take this next step in my career with the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce,” said Kerry Powers.  “The Chamber has an extremely strong foundation and talented staff for me to work with.  Irmo and its businesses have so much to offer the community and I look forward to being a part of this organization.”

“The chamber has come a long way since we started 18 years ago,” said Barbara Willm, Vice President of Community Relations, Lexington Medical Center.  “We have entered a new era, with a new brand, a new building, and now a new president.  Kerry is going to be a dynamic leader and I look forward to seeing where her leadership will take us.”

Powers will start in her new position leading the Chamber July 28, 2015.  Upcoming Chamber events include the Grand Opening on July 21 and their monthly Chamber Luncheon on Wednesday, August 12.  For more information about the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce GreaterIrmoChamber.com.
