GreaterGood awards grant to Charleston Animal Society

February 2, 2017

GreaterGood awarded $10,00 in grants to help Charleston Animal Society pay for repairs to the damaged road at Feline Freedom Coalition Cat Sanctuary in Ravenel. A portion of the grant also helped cover personnel expenses during Charleston Animal Society’s Hurricane Matthew rescue efforts.

In 2016, Charleston Animal Society took over operational control of Feline Freedom Coalition Cat Sanctuary in Ravenel. It is home to more than 250 cats that live in a quiet, rural setting on 22 acres. The road leading into the sanctuary was in disrepair and the grounds often flooded because of the uneven topography. “We are so thankful to GreaterGood for awarding the grant to the Feline Freedom road improvements,” said Charleston Animal Society Anti-Cruelty Director Aldwin Roman. “The improvements mean our cars and trucks will no longer be damaged, plus it is so much safer and easier for our volunteers to take care of the cats, because the grounds have been leveled off with gravel and other materials.”

“Our hurricane relief efforts helped save 469 animals around the state and right here in the Lowcountry,” said Charleston Animal Society CEO Joe Elmore. “Our staff is amazing and we had people working 24/7, even during the height of the storm.” Needless to say, the cost of the rescue effort was high and GreaterGood stepped in to help fund a portion of the necessary payroll.
