Green Cloud Technologies grows its Plant-a-Tree initiative

November 9, 2016

Green Cloud Technologies, an employee-owned, cloud solutions provider (CSP) based in Greenville, SC, has achieved a major milestone in its “Plant-a-Tree” environmental initiative by planting more than 5,000 trees in less than three years.

Green Cloud Technologies—Business Black Box’s 2015 Green Award winner, and ranked #73 on the 2016 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing small businesses in the US—is dedicated to environmental sustainability by reducing the company’s carbon footprint. In partnership with Carbonfund.org, Green Cloud plants a tree for each of their customers during each quarter of the business year.

Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree Partner program helps companies offset their environmental impact by encouraging them to calculate their carbon footprint, and then participate in Carbonfund.org’s third-party certified projects for forest preservation and improving local environments.

Launched on Earth Day in 2014, Green Cloud’s Plant-a-Tree Initiative planted 1,490 trees in its first year. In 2015, Green Cloud planted 1,896 trees, a nearly 28% increase. For 2016, the company has now planted more than 5,000 trees, a remarkable accomplishment tied directly to Green Cloud’s rapid growth in the industry.

The idea to join this effort came from one of Green Cloud’s team members, Kyle Simpson. “Our Plant-A-Tree Initiative is a great example of applying a simple idea to a worthy cause,” Kyle says, “It’s exciting to think that we’ve already planted over 5,000 trees, but it’s even more exciting to think about how our positive impact on the environment will continue to grow with Green Cloud. This is just one of the many reasons why I’m proud to work at such a great company.”

“As Green Cloud continues to grow at a rapid pace, our commitment to reducing the impact of our growth remains at the forefront of our efforts,” says Green Cloud CEO, Shay Houser, “We’re thrilled to benefit from all the hard work and dedication of our team, but we also feel a responsibility to limit any negative impact that our success may have on the environment. We’re called Green Cloud because we firmly believe in a future of sustainable technology and progress that coexists with the natural world.”
