Greenlink assisting with Charleston evacuation efforts

Greenlink sent three buses and bus operators, along with a mechanic and a service vehicle, to Charleston this morning to aid with the evacuation of Lowcountry residents. After Governor Haley declared a state of emergency for the coastal region on Tuesday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Office of Public Transit issued a call for assistance with transporting evacuees to the Upstate. In addition to providing support for Greenlink’s buses, the mechanic and service truck will also provide maintenance assistance to any bus transporting evacuees to the Upstate in the event of mechanical issues during the trip. The Greenlink vehicles are being staged at the Charleston Area Convention Center this morning and will depart for the Upstate this afternoon.

“We’re glad we’re able to share our resources to help our fellow South Carolinians and look forward to welcoming them aboard,” said James Keel, Assistant Director of Public Transportation. “We also look forward to providing evacuees who shelter in Greenville County without access to a personal vehicle with the ability to get around as they await a safe return to their homes.”
