Greenville Tech offers energy efficient technology opportunity

March 19, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – March 19, 2012 – According to a report on South Carolina energy efficiency opportunities authored by researchers from Georgia Tech and Duke University, technologies such as geothermal heat pumps can significantly reduce energy consumption by commercial facilities.  Also known as ground source heat pumps, this alternative energy source can reduce energy use by up to 44% when comparedto air-source heat pumps and by up to a staggering 72% when compared to electric resistance heating with standard air-conditioning equipment.

Current installation costs are not cheap for geothermal technologies, but the long lifetime of 20-25 years ensures energy bill savings.  Greenville Technical College is helping to reduce the up-front cost of geothermal alternatives by training installers in this new technology.  Local contractors can get in on the ground level of this exciting new opportunity to learn about geothermal technology and become eligible for certification from the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) by attending the 3-day installer training.

The cost for this class is $995 per person, which includes a complete set of IGSHPA Training Manuals, registration for the certification exam, and a 3-Year IGSHPA Installer Membership. Thanks in part to grant funding, the next Geothermal IGSHPA/NATE Certified Installer Training scheduled for April 4-6, 2012 allows companies to train two individuals for the $995 fee.  However, participants attending the class for free are not eligible to take the certification exam unless they submit a $300 payment.

To register for the training class, call Greenville Tech Corporate and Career Development at 864-250-8800.
