GSSM Foundation to host inaugural Alumni Entrepreneur Symposium

The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation will host its inaugural Alumni Entrepreneur Symposium, Project Verge, April 6-8 in Hartsville.
Part of the Foundation’s initiative to create an innovation ecosystem built around alumni, Project Verge will be a two-day think-tank aimed at connecting GSSM alumni with each other and with SC-based entrepreneurs and innovation leaders.
The symposium will feature conversations about corporate innovation gaps, startup collaborations, job creation, and the possible development of an Alumni Consulting Team to support SC’s growing R&D needs.
“Project Verge is the beginning of a new journey for us aimed at building a larger focus on economic development and the role the GSSM Foundation, in partnership with GSSM alumni, can play,” said Kim Bowman, CEO, GSSM Foundation. “We’ve got an incredible talent base. It’s time to tap into it. It’s time to think bigger, more creatively and long-term.”
Project Verge will feature keynote speaker Paul Singh, an entrepreneur, speaker and investor. Singh travels the country in his 30′ Airstream Classic to find, explore and uncover the best startups outside of Silicon Valley with his company Results Junkies. Previously, Singh was a Managing Director at 1776 and a General Partner in 1776’s Seed Fund. Prior to 1776, he was the founder of Disruption Corporation and general partner of Disruption’s post-seed venture capital arm, Crystal Tech Fund.
Singh was a Partner at 500 Startups, an accelerator and venture firm headquartered in Silicon Valley that has invested in over 1,500 companies across 50+ countries. He has founded a few of his own startups and spent some time at AOL, Carmax, PBworks and Symantec.
