GREENVILLE, SC – Spearheaded by Physical Science teacher, Mr. Doug Adomatis, GTCHS 9th graders are conquering the problem of growing sustainable food sources on the moon when humans venture from Earth to live in outer space. Students will engage in NASA’s Human Exploration Project Lunar Plant Growth Chamber (LPGC) Design Challenge, which is a hands-on, interactive STEM learning experience. More specifically, Mr. Adomatis will guide students through the engineering design process starting with plant research to create a preliminary design, identifying improvements through a critical design review, and culminating with the actual manufacturing of 3D LPGC prototypes and their evaluation. The possibility and completion of this project-based learning experience is afforded by the Public Education Partners of Greenville County Innovative Teaching Grant: Collaborative Learning through STEM; without which the students would not have the supplies, including a 3D printer, to manufacture and operate their LPGC prototypes.
