Habitat Greenwood relocates ReStore to Uptown neighborhood

November 3, 2016

On Wednesday, Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity opened the doors of their newly relocated ReStore in Greenwood’s Uptown neighborhood, bringing Habitat’s daily operations closer to the communities they serve.

The new ReStore is located at 337 Maxwell Avenue, in the heart of Uptown. The ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. All proceeds from the ReStore directly support the mission of Habitat for Humanity by helping to fund home builds, rehabilitations, and homeownership classes for program participants. Shoppers can also make donations of new and gently used household items at this location. The ReStore was previously located on Highway 72/25 Bypass.

While the ReStore is the first Habitat operation to move into the new space, Habitat Greenwood hopes to consolidate all operations into the Uptown headquarters within the next 12-18 months. Habitat Greenwood currently operates the divisions of its organization out of five separate locations. Bringing all Habitat functions under one roof will allow construction, administration, and the ReStore to run more efficiently.

The move to Uptown also brings Habitat Greenwood closer to its focus neighborhood within Greenwood’s downtown, the historic Westside neighborhood. Habitat Greenwood recently completed a one-day Westside revitalization blitz, and is preparing for a long-range community development project within the neighborhood.

“Our Board of Directors understood our vision for connecting our operations more closely to the communities we serve, and we are excited to make this move beginning with the ReStore,” said Chad Charles, Executive Director of Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity. “We want to thank our community partners, including the City of Greenwood and Countybank, who have been instrumental in our move, and we look forward to beginning this new chapter for our organization.”

The ReStore will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday. The store will be closed Sunday through Tuesday. For more information, visit http://www.greenwoodhabitat.org/restore.
