December 5, 2016

The Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America announced a grant award of $10,000 from the Dominion Foundation to support the integration of technology and environmental education at their Boy Scout Camp Barstow on Lake Murray in Saluda, SC.

dominionFunds from the Dominion Foundation were used to expand Wi-Fi service, purchase 25 tablets and software and support a week of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Camp for Cub Scouts age 8-12 years old.  This allowed youth and adult volunteers to better document and share their Camp Barstow experiences with friends and family, use tablets to earn merit badges and expand their learning of the environment with real time access to online resources to map the night sky or identify a plant or tree.  Youth also used more sophisticated programs on the tablets for animation, engineering and other STEM related merit badges.  Said Indian Waters Council STEM Committee Chair and Boy Scouts of American National STEM committee member, Chris Jordan, P.E., “Dominion continues to be a champion for youth learning about nature in nature, while recognizing the advantages of using today’s technologies to expand it.  We appreciate their generosity and commitment to our Council and it’s almost 6,000 youth members.”
