J. Davis Construction begins work on a multi-family/metro target building in downtown Athens, Georgia

March 2, 2020

Joining the booming Athens Skyline, J. Davis Construction (JDC) has started work on a four-story, mult-use building that adjoins the first floor of the University Towers in downtown Athens, GA. Located at 141 E. Broad Street, the building provides college students and community residents with added shopping and living options, and features among other things, a green roof system, beautiful aesthetics, and modern skylights.

A practical solution to confined city spaces, the lower level will house the “small format” Target store while upper levels will house nine apartment units containing a total of 30 bedrooms. When asked about the project’s benefit, Ken Melvoen, Project Superintendent, replied, “The Metro Target’s design eliminates wasted space and affords people on the go or those with limited transportation a more convenient way to shop.”

Adding to that, Joel Davis, President and Owner of J. Davis Construction, recognizes the impact the Metro Target will have on student life and the downtown community. He commented, “Anytime you’ve made people’s lives easier while optimizing community resources, you’ve done a remarkable job. This project will not only bring more business to the area, but serve more people in the community.”

The project is on track for late 2020 completion.
