Jay D. Hamm named vice president of Emergency, Surgical & Trauma Services at Palmetto Health Richland

COLUMBIA, SC – April 3, 2009 – Jay Hamm has been named the vice president of emergency, surgical and trauma services at Palmetto Health Richland. Hamm, returns to Columbia from Charlottesville, VA where he worked for the University of Virginia Health System for almost six years. He has been a medical professional for 20 years, and previously worked at Palmetto Health Richland from 1989-2000.

Hamm received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at University of South Carolina. Prior to returning to Palmetto Health, Hamm was the administrator over emergency and surgical services at University of Virginia Health System, where he improved the quality of the clinical services in several areas to better meet patients’ needs.

Hamm’s professional affiliations include memberships in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Emergency Nurses Association, and Association of Air Medical Services. Since 2006, Hamm has served on the board for the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville, Virginia.
