Our friend John Foust has great ideas.
John teaches advertising, marketing and selling.
In Publishers Auxiliary he gives good advice.
John says at your next staff meeting, ask everyone:

1. What new ideas and offerings should we start?
This encourages creativity and innovative thinking.
The more you do it, the better the ideas become.
Your people will look for good ideas.
When they propose them, something great happens.
They take ownership of the idea.
Ownership brings with it pride and productivity.
Our small staff is highly productive.
They are all self-starters and take the initiative.
This step encourages even more innovation.

Teach them where to look for ideas.
• Cable, online and print advertising.
How can we make these concepts work for us?
How can it help sell more to more people more often?
• Local and national publications and cable news.
What are people talking and thinking about?
How can we use that to promote our offerings?
• Ideas from others at networking and other events.
What do others do that we might adapt ourselves?

2. What should we stop doing?
Strategies and tactics seem to have life spans.
Over time, you and your customers tire of them.
When they seem to run out of gas, should we:
• Waste more time and money trying to revive them?
• Give them a decent burial and move on?

3. What are we doing that we can improve?
Everything you do is a work in progress.
Keep refining and fine tuning for better results.
Constantly seek improvement.
It excites your people and your customers.
It is a great client attraction and retention strategy.

Here’s your homework;
• Use the three step formula in your next meeting.
• Give everyone time to respond to the questions,
• Show respect and appreciation for their ideas.
