Junior League Of Greenville Celebrates 85 Years

September 12, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – The Junior League of Greenville, Inc. (JLG) celebrates 85 years on September 12. The JLG started with only 20 members eighty-five years ago, today the organization is up to 1,250 members. This milestone is all about celebrating who the JLG is and what they have accomplished.

“I feel the fact that a group of women in 1929 formed a charitable organization to help the Greenville community is amazing. We have grown with the times – now a large number of our members are not only stay at home moms, but are also career driven women who are making an impact in the community,” said Dr. Kathryn Freedman, President of JLG.

Since 1947, the JLG has raised over $2.4 million for over 300 agencies across the Upstate through special events, volunteering and the Nearly New Shop. The Nearly New Shop is the JLG’s resale store that provides funds to support the programs and projects of the JLG. The Junior League of Greenville has contributed initial funding to many area organizations including the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, the Children’s Museum of the Upstate, Greenville County Art Museum and Pendleton Place for Children and Families.
