CHARLESTON, SC – Mayor John J. Tecklenburg announced at the City Council meeting last night his selection of Jason F. Kronsberg as the new Director of the Department of Parks, succeeding Jerry Ebeling who retired in March. City Council voted unanimously in favor of the appointment.

Mayor Tecklenburg said, “Jason Kronsberg, who was Deputy Director of Parks, has been serving as Interim Director since Jerry’s retirement. I have determined that Jason is the very best person to fill the role of Director of Parks. He will allow the city to maintain the momentum we have on the department’s many initiatives and has the energy, intellect, and leadership ability to lead the Parks Department into the future.”

Kronsberg is a native of Charleston and said “I’m very honored and excited to be named the new Director of Parks. As a landscape architect who grew up in Charleston, I take great pride as the caretaker of our historic city and its iconic public realm. I will continue to evaluate the management practices of our park system, looking for innovative ways to care for what we have so that it can fulfill the expectations of our citizens and visitors alike, while always striving for excellence as we continue to design and construct new City of Charleston Parks and Facilities.”

Kronsberg earned his Bachelors of Science in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University and has worked for the City of Charleston for more than six years. Prior to his employment with the City, Kronsberg practiced Landscape Architecture and Land Planning for projects throughout the Eastern and Northern US.
