Laurens County Voter Registration & Elections Office Relocates to New Bolt Drive Complex
May 11, 2022From the basement to Bolt Drive Complex. The Laurens County Voter Registration and Elections office has relocated from the historic courthouse on the square in Laurens to new sprawling space in the Bolt Drive Complex (105 Bolt Street, Suite B).
The much-needed move will serve the citizens of Laurens County well with sufficient space to execute the services provided by the office.
“We are thrilled with the new space,” said Lynne West Director of Voter Registration and Elections for Laurens County. “The space was carefully designed to provide for secure storage, training facilities and to increase our ability to serve the community with in-person voting and more.”
So, what is different at the new facility?
The space is open with better flow of traffic for different services or needs and greater sight lines for improved service and transparency.
The entrance includes a lobby area shared with Laurens County Veterans Affairs. The first point of interaction with employees is a massive transaction counter that at capacity can serve up to eight lines of people.
In addition to the larger transaction counter there is a large multipurpose room that will serve as a training room for poll workers and also as a voting place. The room is large enough to include many more voting machines and provide space between machines for privacy.
In the last general election 8,300 people came to their office to vote in person absentee. “It will be so much easier to accommodate a large number of voters in the new space,” said West.
Storage in the new space is also much improved. The secure back-office storage area allows for the staff to inventory and control equipment with greater ease.
While the office is open now, there are still waiting for some furniture and filing cabinets to arrive.
Absentee voting opens May 16th. For more information on absentee voting click HERE.
