Let The Count Down Begin – Famously Hot New Year Is Almost Here

It is hard to believe 2013 is coming to a close.  While there have been some great moments and some not-so-great moments, the best way to reminisce is with all of your friends at one of the South’s biggest New Year’s Eve parties, Famously Hot New Year on Main Street.  This is the only place to be in Columbia Tuesday night!

Street parties are great fun, especially free ones, if you go prepared.  Here are a two inspiration looks covering all the bases for function that keep you looking fashionable and chic while you dance, eat, drink and count down to midnight:

1.    Dress.  Let’s face it, for NYE you have to have an amazing dress.  This draped dress is the perfect choice.  It simmers without sequins, requires minimal adornment and the draping is flattering and comfortable so you can enjoy all the food, drinks, and live music the night has to offer.  As an added bonus, paired with black tights the dress will still stand out even more and your legs will be warm.

2.    Coat.  With a clear night forecasted, this will be a necessity as the temperatures drop to near freezing, but the wrong coat can be more of a burden than savior.   When wearing a dress you want to make sure the coat does not restrict the view, so an open design is best and look for belled arms.  They are much easier to slip on and keep your bracelets from catching in the sleeve.

3.    Layers.  Guys this is the perfect rule of thumb for your FHNYE outfit.  By including a cashmere sweater over your shirt and tie you negate the need for an overcoat, allowing a festive blazer to take center stage.  While this is a street party keep the flair alive and your neck warm with a printed scarf.  If you wear a hat, keep it simple.

4.    Shoes.  When the occasion calls for hours on your feet and you want to wear heels, opt for a platform.  Not only will they give you more lift, the platform lowers the pitch of your foot so you can dance with abandon to the legendary KOOL & THE GANG, rising newcomer ZZ WARD and Columbia’s very own WEAVING THE FATE.  Guys leave the oxfords at home and slide into a pair of evening slippers.  Your feet will thank you.

5.    Accessories.  Gloves, hand and and foot warmers are small, but necessary accessories when the temperature dips.  While you can enjoy the indoor VIP ABSOLUT Crescent Lounge with open bar and hors d’oeuvres all night when the countdown begins you will want to be outside watching the ball drop and enjoying the fireworks show.  Since this is a rain or shine event, check the weather closer to Tuesday.  An umbrella may also be a necessary accessory.
