Lexington One’s 2016 graduates outpace state ACT average

The latest ACT scores are in, and Lexington County School District One 2016 graduating seniors again topped the state average. In fact, four of the district’s five high schools met or exceeded the state average.

Lexington District One’s 2016 graduating seniors had the fourth-highest average composite score in the state, closely following the Governor’s Schools and two other districts. The average composite score for Lexington One 2016 graduating seniors on the ACT’s 36-point scale is 19.9 and higher than the state average composite score of 18.5.

The number of Lexington One 2016 graduating seniors taking the ACT increased from 824 in 2015 to 1,622 in 2016.

Lexington One 2016 graduating seniors’ highest average composite score in a core subject, 20.4, came in the area of reading, followed closely by a 20.0 in the science portion of the test. Seniors scored an average of 19.6 in mathematics and 18.9 in English language arts.

Average composite scores for each of the district’s high schools are Lexington High with 21.5, River Bluff High with 21.1, Gilbert High with 18.8, White Knoll High with 18.5 and Pelion High with 17.5. Out of South Carolina’s 232 high schools, the average composite score of 2016 graduating seniors in LHS and RBHS placed them among the top 20 high schools at 14th and 18th respectively.

The South Carolina Department of Education released scores on the ACT College Readiness Benchmark test on August 26.
