First tenant to sign lease in Hampton Station opens doors

GREENVILLE, SC – Greenville’s newest CrossFit box and Olympic Weightlifting gym, Lion’s Roar CrossFit, is proud to announce their grand opening at 1320 Hampton Ave Ext, Unit 1. Lion’s Roar CrossFit was the first tenant to sign a lease in Hampton Station. Hampton Station is situated in a former cotton storage warehouse that was originally built in 1919 in what is now known as the Water Tower District of Greenville. As the first tenant in the building, Lion’s Roar CrossFit was an early player in this revitalization project.

James PageHead coach and owner James Page discovered CrossFit in 2011. At an impasse in his life, Page was looking for a new way to challenge himself. It was at this time that he discovered CrossFit. In addition to coaching CrossFit classes, James has trained athletes to compete in Ironman competitions, half marathons, CrossFit and weightlifting competitions. Page is certified in CrossFit Level 1 and USA Weightlifting Level 2.

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. The program delivers a fitness program that is, by design, broad, general and inclusive. The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience, from elderly individuals with heart disease to cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. The key to CrossFit is scaling load and intensity; not changing programs.

Lion’s Roar CrossFit offers small class sizes; a class size limit of twelve participants enables individuals to have a more one-on-one and interactive experience. The primary goal of the gym is to focus on participants’ technique and to ensure that every exercise is carried out as safely as possible. Besides offering CrossFit classes, Lion’s Roar also has dedicated weightlifting platforms and a USAW Barbell Club. Page also has plans to found a youth weightlifting club for school aged children in the community.

“I found CrossFit at a time in my life when I was unhappy with the direction I was headed,” explains Page. “When I started CrossFit, my entire perspective changed and I started forming relationships and friendships that were incredibly supportive. I’m excited to open my gym in Greenville and offer that same sense of community to anyone who walks through our doors.”
